The FIFA World Cup Twitter account has declared Argentina icon Lionel Messi the GOAT (best of all time). Putting an end to his rivalry with Portugal ace Cristiano Ronaldo. They set the FIFA World Cup as the ultimate hurdle to decide the GOAT debate because both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have two international trophies while having an abundance of goal-scoring records and club championships. And their last dance was to be in Qatar in 2022. But as Portugal unexpectedly lost in the quarterfinals, Messi gave Argentina their first trophy in 36 years, ending their long wait. So, is the GOAT controversy over? While the supporters of the two superstars are still debating it on social media, FIFA has issued a direct judgment.

The Argentine received his fifth Budweiser Player of the Match award in seven games following the contest on Sunday. Later, the FIFA World Cup Twitter account proclaimed Messi the GOAT and said that the World Cup victory had finally allowed him to gather all of his trophies. As they tweeted:
“The GOAT discussion is over. Ultimate reward has now been added to the collection. The legacy is finished. Leo Messi is your Budweiser Player of the Match on the day that Argentina won their third FIFA World Cup.”
Messi completed his illustrious trophy cabinet by winning the FIFA World Cup at France’s expense at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Sunday (December 18) evening. The superstar scored twice and converted his penalty kick in the shootout as La Albiceleste prevailed 4-2 on penalties (3-3 after extra time).
For his outstanding performances in Qatar, the Paris Saint-Germain star was given the FIFA Golden Ball (best player of the tournament). He is now the only player in World Cup history to have received the prestigious award twice (also in 2014).
