SL vs IRE: Day 3 Report
Ireland had another torrid day in the field. The opening duo started in the same way as they left off. There was no change in their batting style. Both scored centuries with a record of 228 runs partnership at Galle International Stadium. Skipper Karunaratne scored 115 off 133 with 15 fours. Campher took his wicket in deep fine leg in the last over before lunch. He reached the 16th century of his test career. This was his second consecutive ton in just 116 balls. Madushka also brought up his maiden Test century, pulling a Harry Tector full toss for six.

Now, their 228-run has become the highest opening partnership at this ground. The previous record was 193 between Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya against South Africa in 2000. Karunaratne moved to the second position in the tally of most centuries by Sri Lankan captains with 8* centuries by crossing Kumar Sangakkara.
By stumps, Sri Lanka had scored at 4.63 runs an over. Bad light forced players to leave the field early before scheduled tea. Then rains arrived and washed out the rest of the day’s play. Madushka was not out on 149 off 234 balls. Mendis was on 83 off 96 with seven fours and five sixes, including three in a row to debutant left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys. The partnership between these two was 129. The rain allowed only 59 overs in the day.
Now, Play will resume 15 minutes early on the final two days to make up for lost time. Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
