SL vs IRE: 2nd Test Day 2 Report – SL trail by 411 runs

The batters dominated on Day 2. We saw tons from Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher which helped the Irish to post their highest test score 492 in Galle. But Sri Lanka in their reply started well and scored 81 without any loss at the Stumps of day 2. Let’s see how SL vs IRE Day 2 unfolded.

SL vs IRE: Day 2 Report

With the start of day 2, the Irish lost their 5th wicket early in the form of Lorcan Tucker. Fernando bowled Loran Tucker over for a score of 80. Sri Lanka got the sixth wicket of Paul Stirling who retired hurt yesterday on 74. Before losing his wicket to AM Fernando, he completed his century and scored 103.

At lunch, Ireland scored 399/6. Irish lost their seventh wicket on 474 of Andy McBrine. He scored 35 and made a partnership of 89 with Campher before being trapped by MV Fernando. After three overs, Campher (111 runs) also gets trapped by Prabath Jayasuriya. He scored his first test hundred.

The first test match hero Prabath Jayasuriya again took fifer who bowled a mind-boggling 26.3 of Sri Lanka’s 55.3 overs on the day. The Fernando duo, Vishwa and Asitha, both took 2-2 wickets along with Ramesh Mendis who secured 1 wicket of Balbarnie.

After Kevin O’Brien, Stirling became the second Ireland batter who has a century in all three formats.

Sri Lanka’s openers made smooth starts. Nishan Madushka scored 39 off 45 and Dimuth Karunaratne scored 41 off 64 before stumps. The bad light forced the closing of play an hour earlier than scheduled. On day third, the Sri Lankan opener would like to score big and create pressure. While the visitors will hope for an early breakthrough.
