The Stadium is set to host IPL 2022 Playoffs

The Gujarat Cricket Association-owned Sardar Patel Stadium, more popularly known as Motera Stadium, is one of the premier cricket grounds in India. It was renamed Narendra Modi Stadium on February 24, 2021, after the incumbent prime minister of India. The stadium hosted the second pink ball test in India. And the first pink-ball Test between India and England in February last year. Equipped with modern and world-class amenities the stadium has a built-in clubhouse with 55 rooms. The clubhouse features both indoor & outdoor games, restaurants, an Olympic size swimming pool, gym as well as a 3D projector theatre.

With a capacity of 1,10,000, which trumps the MCG in Australia that can accommodate 90,000 people, this stadium in Ahmedabad is the largest cricket stadium in the world with four world-class dressing rooms. With a seating capacity of 110,000, it is also the world’s second-largest sports ground in the World.

Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) constructed the stadium at Motera for ₹800 crores over 4 years.

Narendra Modi Stadium Land Area

The redesigned stadium occupies 63 acres of land. It has three entry points compared to one in the old stadium. A metro line station is also present at one of the entry points.

Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Details 

Narendra Modi Stadium is the only stadium in the world with 11 centre pitches on the main ground. It also has 6 indoor pitches with bowling machines and 4 dressing rooms. 

For the playoffs of IPL 2022, the venue offers five black soil pitches and six red soil pitches. The black soil pitches offer better bounce compared to the red soil pitches, which tend to dry soon and assist spinners or slow bowlers.
