The most successful team in the IPL, Mumbai Indians, decided to retain four of their players ahead of the mega auction. MI is often rated as the best T20 team ever because of the team they’ve groomed over the years. The retentions, thus, would have been a very difficult task for the captain and the management. The five-time champions will be heading for the auction with a purse of 48 crores. In this article, we look at the MI Retained Players List 2022.
MI Retained players list 2022
1) Rohit Sharma (16 Crores)
The most successful captain of the IPL, Rohit Sharma, is Mumbai’s first retention. The management has shelled out whopping 16 Crores from their kitty to retain the services of their captain. After winning back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020, MI didn’t have a great season in 2021. Rohit will be eager to build the team from scratch and take Mumbai to their record sixth IPL title. His form will be important too because he hasn’t been at his best with the bat in the recent IPL seasons. So, Rohit leads this MI retained players list 2022 with the highest salary of 16 Crores.
2) Jasprit Bumrah (12 Crores)
The spearhead of the Indian bowling line-up, Bumrah, has been retained for 12 crores. The gun fast bowler saw a huge spike in his salary after the retentions. Bumrah was retained by the MI for a mere 7 crores in 2018. Jasprit will be leading Mumbai’s pace attack and will be a very crucial part of the team over the coming years. The best part for Mumbai is that Jasprit isn’t an injury-prone bowler despite his unique action. Thus, he is a very safe bet for the team and duly deserves the large sum of money.
3) Kieron Pollard (8 Crores)
Pollard is an integral part of the Mumbai Indians. He was bought by MI in 2010 and has been their crucial member since then. Pollard is also Mumbai’s vice-captain for the past few seasons. With the bat, he has played some very important knocks for the franchise, especially in the big knockout games. As far as fielding is concerned, there is no bit of doubt that he is one of the best fielders in the world. The limited-overs captain of the West Indies will once again don the MI jersey whenever he walks out to the park for his next IPL game.
4) Suryakumar Yadav (6 Crores)
Yadav joined Mumbai Indians in 2018 and quickly became an important member of the squad. His stellar performances for MI led to his international debut as well. The Mumbaikar, who is often referred to as the Indian Mr.360, is a sweet timer of the cricket ball. He is an elegant batsman to watch out for in every game he plays. Mumbai Indians will surely hold higher expectations from Suryakumar this season.
As mentioned earlier, the retentions would have been a headache for the MI management. Even after four important retentions, there were a few notable absentees. Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Quinton de Kock were the major names missing from the Mumbai Indians Retained Players list for 2022. Alas, the retentions rule is the same for every team and the MI management can’t do anything regarding this. Subsequently, Hardik Pandya was drafted by the Ahmedabad franchise and he’ll be leading them from 2022.
