Sunrisers Hyderabad name Pat Cummins, “Patrick James Cummins”, the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup winning captain, as the captain for the 16th edition of Indian Premier League.
Pat Cummins will succeed South African Aiden Markram as the captain of the 2016 IPL Champions. Cummins is the third Australian to lead the Orange Army.
The team bought Pat Cummins for record setting 20.5 crore INR in December 2023. Mitchell Starc, fellow Aussie is the only one with more higher fees.
The Sunrisers are expecting Cummins to lead the Risers to glory after the three successive poor performing group stages. The Risers, who made Playoffs in succesive five seasons (2016-2020) haven’t qualified above 8th since.
Cummins debutted in Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. He has spent most of his time in KKR – including a record fastest half century by an allrounder in a match against MI. He has also played one season for Delhi Capitals.
