“I want to spend time with my family”: Jason Roy on being asked about IPL 2022 pullback

Gujarat Titans have suffered a huge blow ahead of their inaugural season in the Indian Premier League. English opener, Jason Roy, has denied his availability for this season of the IPL. Roy was GT’s one of the most exciting buys at the auction. He was in a top-notch form in the Pakistan Super League and had a good track record on the Indian pitches as well. Thus, this update comes as a huge setback for the franchise. One of the interesting(and surprising) facts to know is that Roy was bought for his base price of 2 crores. However, it doesn’t really matter now. “I want to spend time with my family”, cited Jason Roy on being asked about his pullback from IPL 2022. The Hardik Pandya-led team will now have to start their hunt for a suitable replacement for the English opener.

Jason Roy On His Pullback from IPL 2022

Jason Roy Pullback IPL 2022

Notably, Jason Roy wanted to work on his workload management. He was a part of the bio-bubble at the recently concluded Pakistan Super League and participating in the IPL would have meant another couple of months in the bubble. Citing the bio-bubble fatigue, Roy announced his unavailability for this season of the IPL. This decision of Roy could end the road for him in the league because franchises do remember every player’s betrayal. Roy was aware of the fact that he would have to spend two more months in the bubble if a franchise acquires his services for IPL 2022. Therefore, it is quite unprofessional from Jason Roy from the Titans’ point of view.

Jason Roy made his IPL debut in 2017 for the Gujarat Lions. In 2018, he was bought by the Delhi Capitals and he had a decent season for them. His match-winning innings of 91 runs against Mumbai Indians in 2018 was the highlight of his 13-match IPL career. Surprisingly, Roy went unsold at the IPL 2021 auction and the batsman didn’t shy away from sharing his disappointment on Twitter. However, he was brought on board by the SRH as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh.

Gujarat Titans have a tough task in their hands now. The side already looks bleak and finding a replacement for a player like Roy won’t be easy. Though the task is a tough one to complete, the franchise doesn’t have any other option left. We will soon share our opinions on who can be those 3 ideal players to replace Roy for IPL 2022.
