Big Bash League 12: Naveen-ul-Haq pulls out of BBL in retaliation to Aussies calling off the Afghanistan tour

Canberra: Sydney Sixers’ Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq pulls out of Big Bash League. He joins Fazalhaq Farooqi as the second Afghan to be sacked or resigned in the middle way of the 12th BBL Edition.

Earlier today, Australia canceled the Afghanistan Tour which was supposed to take place in March 2023. The three-ODI series was planned to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates, the unofficial venue of the Afghan Cricket Board. Cricket Australia later explained that this is in light of the recent proclamation of the Taliban’s recent restrictions regarding girls’ education and women’s employment.

“Time to say won’t be participating in big bash after this until they stop these childish decisons that’s how they went about the one off test now ODI when a country is going through so much in place off being supportive you want to take away the only reason of happiness from them”

Naveen wrote on Twitter after the controversial decision by the CA

Naveen-ul-Haq has played in two matches this season, one against the Scorchers and the other against the Hurricanes. He has played in 7 ODIs and 22 T20Is for the Afghans in his career so far. Immediately after the tweet by Naveen, one of the most sought-after all-rounders in the world, Rashid Khan expressed his bitterness. He tweeted to keep politics from cricket. He added that he will be considering his future in the tournament strongly.

The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021 post-USA’s withdrawal from the Asian nation. The orthodox Islamic outfit has banned women from playing any sport and closed off Education for them. Cricket Australia commented that they will play Afghanistan once the condition of the women and girls.

Afghanistan remains the only full member of the ICC without an active women’s team. They are also the single full member who is not appearing in the U-19 Women’s T20 Cup.
