The BCCI has hinted to increase the number of matches in the next IPL cycle (2023-27) ahead of the auction for new media rights. The next cycle will have a total of 410 matches as hinted by the BCCI. As the bidders for the media rights were asked to consider 410 and not 370 matches. There is supposed to be a gradual increase in the number of matches, through the cycle. Moreover, it is believed that the number of matches will increase to 84 and later to 94. However, there is no clarity on how will the matches be divided across each team.
In IPL 2022, two virtual groups were decided. And each team competed twice with one’s own group and one from the other group. Whereas, one match each was played with the remaining teams. Similarly, a method will be devised for 84 and 94 matches. However, there is official clarity on the same.
BCCI to increase the number of IPL matches in 2024-27 cycle
The proposed number of matches for the 2024-27 cycle, as per reports are as follows. Moreover, the opening match, team matches at home and away venues, and the play-offs all add up to give the total number of matches played in a season.

Earlier, cricket experts Ravi Shastri and Aakash Chopra have predicted that two IPL seasons can be played per year in the near future. Moreover, Ravi Shastri has suggested limiting T20I Cricket to only World Cups. As a result, the T20 leagues like IPL, CPL, BBL, PSL, and BPL could flourish.
