The apex body of Indian cricket recently took the decision to increase the pensions of its former players. BCCI issued the revised charts for the Pension hike for former players and officials. The pensions for some categories have been doubled. There has been an increase in both Men and Women’s categories. Earlier, former Test players were paid Rs 37,500, but now they will get Rs 50,000. Players that were paid 50,000 will now get Rs 70,000. Whereas, the Women internationals who got 30,000 will now get Rs 52,500. First-class players who were given Rs 15,000 and Rs 22,500 monthly will now get a doubled amount. These changes have been made to ensure the financial security of former players.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly acknowledged the contribution of not just the cricketers who have toiled hard for the game. But, he also hailed the umpires for their immense contribution to the game of cricket. In addition, Ganguly emphasized that BCCI wants to make sure that the financial needs of their former players are taken proper care of. Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary also shared a Tweet about BCCI’s decision.
“The welfare of our cricketers be it former or present is a top priority, and increasing pension amounts is a step in that direction. The BCCI values the contribution the umpires have made over the years and this is one way to express our gratitude for their diligent services to Indian Cricket. A total of around 900 personnel will get the benefit of the scheme with more than 75 percent of the beneficiaries getting a 100 percent raise.”
