After a quite few seasosn, Big Bash League (BBL) and its counterpart Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has finally introduced the Decision Review System. All the teams in the domestic T20 League have the option to use one incorrect review per innings. All BBL games will feature DRS while 24 of 59 WBBL games features the same.
Time Limit is the main hesitant in using Decision Review System. The Australian Men’s games are often very long and the addition of DRS will only add more time to it. However, by introducing a time cap, Cricket Australia has remedied the same. Fielding teams must commence final over within 79 minutes (plus allowances) from the innings start. The additional clause states that failure in doing so will result in limitation to four players outside the circle for the rest of innings.

In addition, The Management have scrapped the Bash Boost Point and X-Factor Substitution for the season. However, the Power Surge is added to the WBBL for the upcoming season. The Power Surge is a two-over block between overs 11-20 in which the fielding team is permitted two players outside the circle.
Big Bash Owner Alastair Dobson commented positively. He said that it was a complicated task since BBL is the most logistically complex T20 League. The main hurdles for introducing the same was restrictions on travel and movement due to the pandemic.
“We retain a clear desire to innovate and drive our Leagues forward but are also willing to review decisions that have not realised the intended positive impact, such as the Bash Boost point and X-Factor substitution.” Dobson added on the same
