Docklands: Four-time champions Perth Scorchers defeated Melbourne Renegades by five wickets to stay atop the points table in the New Year Clash of Big Bash League.
Renegades after winning the toss, elected to bat first. Aaron Finch and Jonathan Wells stalled the initial wicket loss and maintained a good partnership. Finch managed a quality 65 runs off 48 balls to top-score for the Melbourne-based team. Excluding Wells and Finch, Akeal Hossein and Will Sutherland’s quickfire in the death took the target to 156.
Andrew Tye took three wickets including a middle stump to uproot to dismiss Finch. Jason Behrendorff, Jhye Richardson, Peter Hatzoglou each picked up a wicket.
Francois du Plessis and Cameron Bancroft enthralled a first wicket partnership. F du Plessis scored 39 off 29 balls, Cameron Bancroft scored 46 off 32. Josh Inglis came as two-down. He whacked 6 boundaries and top scored for the Scorchers. An all-round effort from the team has helped the Scorchers cross the line for their fifth win this season.
Perth Scorchers stay atop the Big Bash League table with 10 points while Renegades dropped to fifth with 6 points. 10-15 runs made Perth the clear winners of the game.
