David Warner scores a double century in his 100th Test, becoming just the second player to do so

David Warner became the second player to reach the milestone in his 100th Test match when he scored a double century on Day 2 of the second Test between Australia and South Africa. The feat was only accomplished by Joe Root, who did it against India in February 2021.

This was Warner’s third 200-plus score in a foreign test. On his way to the double hundred in the boxing day Test, Warner overcame cramps. After reaching the milestone, the left-handed batter left the game in pain because his hamstring issue persisted.

Australia easily defeated South Africa’s first-inning score of 189 thanks to Warner’s performance, and on Day 2 the lead was increased by more than 100 runs.

The 36-year-old Warner had earlier hit 100 in their historic 100th appearance in whites, making him just the 10th batter and second Australian in Test history to do so. During the innings, Warner also surpassed the milestone of 8000 Test runs.

David Warner found success after a rough time

Warner withdrew his appeal to have his captaincy ban overturned earlier this month due to disagreements with Cricket Australia. Following a disappointing performance in the first Test against South Africa, former captain Ricky Ponting urged him to reflect carefully on his career and how he wants to end it.

However, Warner will have the opportunity to break the record for most runs scored in a player’s 100th appearance if he comes out to bat again in this inning or the one after. He is currently third, behind Ricky Ponting (263), and Joe Root (218).
