Wickets at Regular Intervals, the key to the Dutch victory

Whenever the Netherlands were pushed onto their back foot, they managed to strike. All their bowlers bowled with excellent control. Fred Klaassen was brilliant but it was Glover’s two overs and the spell from Bas de Leede which won them the game.

Failed South African batting line-up

South Africa, just did not have that one batter who would help them get over the line. They needed someone to go on and plan an innings of significance but that did not happen. A few of them got off to start but none went on to make use of it. In the end, they were reliant on David Miller and Heinrich Klaassen to finish it but the two failed to do so too.

Netherlands’ plan to take the game deep in the first innings

Batting first the Dutch got themselves to a competitive total thanks to some handy contributions from the top order. Colin Ackermann, the player of the match, mentioned that the pitch was slow and there was a bit of turn, but the plan was to take the game deep, and luckily the boundaries flowed at the end.

Conditions in Dutch favor

Scott Edwards, the victorious skipper, while speaking in the post-match presentation added that they are quite used to such conditions in the Netherlands. The cold and wet weather made the pitch slower than expected. While for the Proteas it was the polar opposite of their home conditions, it favored the Dutch.

Lack of intent shown by the South African contingent

Regardless of getting a decent start Temba Bavuma’s poor captaincy couldn’t prevent the leak of boundaries in the first innings. Which led to the Netherlands being in a good position managing to put up a challenging target. On top of that, neither the captain, Temba Bavuma nor any other player understood the demand of the game. Just one anchoring innings was required to chase the 158-run target. However, the Proteas lacked that.
