At the current 48th Junior National Aquatic Championships being contested at the Biju Patnaik Swimming Pool in the venerable Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Maharashtra’s Vedaant Madhavan broke the men’s 1500m freestyle record.
Vedaant, who was in the lead and had an effective stroke, timed 16:01.73 to break the previous mark of 16:06.43 seconds set by his fellow statemate Advait Page in 2017. He won the bronze medal ahead of Bengal’s Shubhojeet Gupta (16:34:06) and Karnataka’s Amogh Anand Venkatesh (16:21:98).

As his son Vedaant broke a record at the Junior National Aquatics, Madhavan is a pleased father. He accomplished a new record by beating the old one of 16 minutes.

Other winners in the Swimming event
Harshika Ramachandra of Karnataka set a new meet record in the 400-meter freestyle for group II girls with a time of 4:29.25 seconds. Rujula S, also of Karnataka, finished ten seconds later with a time of 4:39.53 seconds to take second place. In the 200-meter butterfly race, Harshika set yet another meet record. To win the gold, she broke Apeksha Fernandes’ three-year-old record of 2:23.67. Mokshitha Addanki of Telangana and Tanishi Gupta of Karnataka finished behind Harshika, who finished in 2:23.20 seconds.
The 50-meter breaststroke event for girls in group I also set a record. Maharashtra’s Apeksha Fernandes managed to impress by taking home her second gold medal of the competition. Her statemate Zaara Jabbar, who finished in 35.91 seconds, was beaten out for the gold by her amazing time of 33.49 seconds.
Karnataka was in first place in the medal standings after day two with a total of 31 medals, followed by Maharashtra with 17 medals and Telangana with 8 medals.
Vedaant Madhavan Previous achievements
At the Danish Open swimming competition in Copenhagen, Denmark, Vedaant Madhavan won the gold medal. He posted a video of Vedaant being declared the victor on Instagram. With a time of 8:17:28, Vedaant won the men’s 800m freestyle swimming competition. At the same competition, Vedaant had previously earned a silver medal in a different category.
Vedaant has previously won seven medals at the Junior National Aquatic Championships in 2017 and a bronze medal in the Latvia Open in March 2021. (four silver and three bronze).
