Twenty time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will take on the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round of the 2022 ATP Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.
Novak Djokovic returns to the courts after missing out on the Sunshine Masters due to vaccination requirements in the US. He had an amazing run in 2021 securing three of the four major titles barely missing out a Calendar Slam. It has been a tough year this time for the world No.1 as he refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19. He was deported out of Australia and hence missed out on the very first Grand Slam of the Year. He also exited the Dubai Tennis Championship in the quarterfinal after loosing to Jiri Veseley. Entering the clay season, Djokovic will try to use this tournament to boost his confidence for Roland Garos.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s season has not been great so far. Having only won four matches so far in this year, it is unlucky for him to face Djokovic in just the second round of the tournament. After loosing to Shapovalov in the Second round in the Indian wells masters, it was again first round exits in Miami and Marrkech.
