Just In: Boris Becker Facing Jail In Bankruptcy Trial

The German has been convicted on 4 out of 24 offences.

Six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker was found guilty on several counts after his trial by a London jury. Becker was tried for 24 offences related to his 2017 bankruptcy. It was declared over a $4.6 million loan for a Spanish property. Court also found him guilty of charges including failing to disclose estate and concealing debt. He was acquitted on a further 20 counts. The sentencing is due for April 29.

Hidden Assets

Becker, who was the former coach of World No.1 Novak Djokovic has apparently told trustees attempting to secure his assets that he was not in possession of multiple trophies. He also added that the missing prizes were not of much significance to him.

The court was told Becker received 1.13 million euros from the sale of a Mercedes car dealership he owned in Germany. The money was later deposited in a business account used as his “piggy bank” for personal expenses. He was found guilty of transferring hundreds of thousands of pounds to other accounts. Most notable was that of his ex-wife Barbara and estranged wife Sharlely “Lilly” Becker, the mother of his fourth child.
He was also convicted for not declaring a property in Germany, and hiding an 825,000 euros loan and shares in a tech firm.

The 54 year old Becker, out on conditional bail, could face a jail sentence of up to seven years. In the meanwhile, he has denied the charges against him.
