The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed William Nylander to an 8-year, $92M contract extension ($11.5M AAV) earlier today.
According to Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet), The deal also includes a full no-movement clause for the entirety of the deal. This means Nylander can’t be traded, waived or transferred to minors without his consent.
William Nylander is joining John Tavares, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner as the fourth player with an AAV above $10M in Leafs Squad. The Contract Extension is the largest in franchise history.

Maple Leafs selected William Nylander in the first round, eighth overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The organisation offered him three year, entry level contract on 18th August, 2014.
Nylander remained a RFA for quite bit of time, losing around $30K a day during his tenure as an unsigned player. He signed a six-year deal, $45M deal in 2018.
William is on his way to a career year. He has maintained some staggering point streaks this season. Nylander has barked up 54 points from 37 games this season. His all-time high came in 2022-23 season when the Swede earned 87 points.
Nylander has enjoyed a good run in 2024, a rise to NHL’s favourite boys. He even got the opportunity to play in front of his grandma when the NHL toured in Sweden.
