The third match of day two of the 2022 Laver Cup pits world number seven Novak Djokovic against world number 19 Frances Tiafoe.
After winning the Wimbledon championship in July, Djokovic hasn’t played on the court in any matches. Because of the vaccine issue, he was unable to participate in any US Open Series events, including the US Open, and he later decided not to compete in the Davis Cup match last week. Djokovic therefore joins the Laver Cup this year having played no tennis for over two and a half months. The fact that Djokovic has participated in just three matches on hard courts this season makes the situation even more intriguing. These occurred in February in Dubai, where the 21-time Grand Slam champion won two matches then fell to Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinal.
On the opening day of the Laver Cup competition, Tiafoe made an appearance when he teamed up with Jack Sock to deny Roger Federer a victory. In a thrilling but emotional match, Tiafoe and Sock from the United States defeated Federer and Rafael Nadal 4-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9 to give Team World a crucial point in the Laver Cup 2022.
Tiafoe had previously competed in the 2022 US Open, where he advanced to the semifinals, and this year’s event marked his greatest performance at a Grand Slam.
