Andy Murray was left disappointed after Daniil Medvedev denied him his first title in four years when the Russian clinched the title at the Qatar Open on Saturday (February 25) by beating the Briton 6-4, 6-4. Murray had been playing brilliantly in the tournament and fans rather expected to see him lift a trophy again.
When Medvedev won the first set, it was expected that Murray, who saved five points in the semi-final against Jiri Lehecka, will make a stunning comeback today also. Earlier in the tournament, Murray was awarded a main draw wildcard and the Scott would then reach his tour-level final since Stuttgart last year. He saved match points against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, then somehow defeated Alexander Zverev and Alexandre Muller in three sets. And in the semi-final, the three-time Grand Slam champion outclassed Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka.
