Nick Kyrgios claims he hasn’t done anything crazy to be branded the “bad boy” of tennis

He tried to explain his situation by saying that if his son was playing then he would prefer him to break racquets than to accept the defeat.

Australia’s star tennis player Nick Kyrgios is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in recent times. But his short temper and his infamous racquet smashing on the court have led many to brand him as the “bad boy” of tennis.

Kyrgios recently spoke to Logan Paul, Mike Majlak, and George Janko about that tag in a podcast called “Impaulsive”. Kyrgios claimed that ever since he came to play the ATP tours, he has been branded the same.

I’m not, like I just, I don’t know, they just branded me this ever since I came on tour. Honestly, like, I don’t do anything crazy,” Kyrgios said. Also Read: Why Bjorn Borg Left Felicitation Ceremony Due To CM Bommai’s Late Arrival?

Nick Kyrgios says he would want his son to break a racquet than accept failure

In that same podcast, Nick Kyrgios defended his on-court temper flare. He tried to explain his situation by saying that if his son was playing then he would prefer him to break racquets than to accept the defeat.

I don’t want to condone it, like, it’s not good. I’ll put it this way, if I was watching a young guy play, like, say my son for instance one day, and he’s losing, I would rather see him be frustrated and break a racket than just take it and cop it on the chin. I want to see that he doesn’t like losing,” Kyrgios added. Also Read: Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Discloses Why He Got Three Armenian Carpets For Daughter Olympia

Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios is yet to play a match in 2024. He picked up a knee injury during the 2022 Japan Open, and hasn’t recovered yet it seems.

He did not play in the United Cup and was set to play his home Grand Slam, Australian Open this year, but withdrew due to the injury. The 27-year-old is expected to play in the Indian Wells and the Miami Masters.
