Roland Garros could see “beautiful battle” between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

Like other fans, even Puig hopes to see the 14-time Rolland Garros champion Rafael Nadal against Djokovic in the final.

At 35, Novak Djokovic is showing no signs of tiredness. He is still playing and still winning matches. The younger generation can’t handle him at present. They have to produce something extraordinary on the court to beat the Serb it seems.

He recently added another crown to his collection of Grand Slams. His 10th Australian Open was his 22nd major trophy, which saw him equalling arch-rival Rafael Nadal‘s tally.

Djokovic undoubtedly is one of the fittest players. If he maintains his fitness level, then in a nick of time, he will surpass everyone to win the most titles in the history of the sport. Fans will keep arguing about who amongst Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal is the ultimate Greatest of All Time (GOAT). But let’s put that discussion on hold for now. For a fan, his/her favorite player is the GOAT. It’s subjective most of the time.

Former Olympic champion Monica Puig also thinks that if Djokovic maintains his body, then he can do wonders on the court. Then there is Rafael Nadal- why anybody will forget the Spaniard when he too stands with 22 Grand Slams? That the next major tournament is the Rolland Garros, starting May 18, and Nadal is the ‘King of Clay’, it’s too soon to predict who will win the match. Only time will tell if the two greats will even clash at the decider of the French Open for their record 23rd title. “That’s the rivalry you love to see,” Monica Puig on Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal

Like other fans, even Puig hopes to see the 14-time Rolland Garros champion Rafael Nadal against Djokovic in the final.

I hope so because that’s always a rivalry you love to see,” Puig told Sky Sports. “Djokovic has won the French Open, Rafa is the ‘King of Clay’ and that’s just a beautiful battle that you love to see on the court. There’s no doubt that that’ll go the distance.

Due to an iliopsoas injury, which the 36-year-old Nadal sustained during the Australian Open this year, he is still on the road to recovery. The injury saw him leaving Melbourne last month, and he will not play at the upcoming Indian Wells as well.

They both know each other extremely well, and they’re both incredible fighters. So that’s something that we all want to look forward to and just enjoy some great tennis with two players that have just absolutely dominated the sport over the past couple of years,” Puig added.

Puig also added that one needs to get Djokovic on a bad day to beat him because the sky is the limit for Djokovic, claimed Puig. Puig believes if Djokovic added 10 more Grand Slam titles to his name, she wouldn’t be surprised.
