Emma Raducanu can crash out of the Top 100 after Madrid Open

Raducanu was required to reach the quarterfinals to avoid losing points at the recently concluded Porche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.

British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu is on the verge of losing her spot in the Top-100 WTA rankings. She has to defeat two players in the first and second round at the 2024 Madrid Open to stay in top 100. If she defeats her opponent (whose name has been revealed yet) in the first round, then she will square off against World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the Round of 64.

Raducanu was required to reach the quarterfinals to avoid losing points at the recently concluded Porche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Last year she reached the last eight round rounds of the WTA 500 event but couldn’t go past the Pole.

But in Stuttgart this year, Raducanu was defeated in the opening round itself by Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-1 in 58 minutes. This saw her slipping to No. 85 in the latest WTA Rankings. Also Read: Novak Djokovic Will Absolutely Be Ready For The French Open, Says Former Tennis Star

Emma Raducanu has lost two matches she played against Iga Swiatek

In their head-to-head stand, Iga Swiakt is ahead with two victories in the two matches they played against each other. Their last encounter was at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells where the Pole defeated Raducanu 6-3, 6-1.

Raducanu hogged the limelight when she lifted the 2021 US Open, becoming the only player, men and women, in the history of tennis to win a Grand Slam title as a qualifier.

Raducanu, then 18, did not even drop a single set and eventually defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the final. Unfortunately for her, this was the only Grand Slam title she clinched so far. Her career has been plagued by poor form, injuries, and mid-match retirements and she also changes her staff on a frequent basis.

Her last-year poor form continues this season also as she won five and lost the same number of matches. In 2022, her win-loss record was 17-19.Also Read: After Andy Murray’s Catastrophic Coaching Career, Chris Evert Took A Jibe At Him
