14th-seed Cameron Norrie will face Lucas Pouille in the second round of the 2023 French Open on Wednesday (May 30) in Paris.
Norrie will enter the match on the back of an exceptional win over Benoit Paire 7-5, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. Prior to the clay Grand Slam, Norrie faced a semifinal loss to Francisco Cerundolo at Lyon Open. This year he has played in 12 tournaments, starting from ASB classic, and went on to clinch just one title in Rio Open where he defeated World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Apart from Rio Open, he has featured in the other two finals as well (ASB Classic and Argentina Open).
Luca Pouille knocked out Jurji Rodnionov in the first round 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 to enter the second round. Prior to the French Open, he played in Savannah Challenger but the match against Federico Agustin Gomez got canceled. In 2023, the 29-year-old hasn’t won a trophy since participating in Nottingham Challenger.
Cameron Norrie vs Lucas Pouille head-to-head
Two have met twice with both winning each. They last faced each other at 2021 Wimbledon while their lone meeting at clay was in the 2018 French Open which the Frenchman won.
Cameron Norrie vs Lucas Pouille prediction
Though both the Brit and the Frenchman play aggressively on the back of the court, Norrie will be the favorite to win due to his consistency. Though clay is not his strongest suit, he is slowly turning out to be an all-court player and improved a lot on his game as opposed to Pouille.
Prediction: Norrie in four sets.
