Miami Grand Prix 2022: What happened at the Qualifying?

After three hours of practices sessions, the 20 racers and the teams set out for the first challenge, the Qualifying. To find who takes the pole for the first ever Miami Grand Prix. The twists and turns sure have thrilled the fans.

Charles Le Clerc continued his momentum stealing the pole once again right under Max Verstappen’s. On a other note, Lewis Hamilton steered back into the top ten in the Race Day Grid. Many A-listers joined the race on the day. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, Micheal Douglas, Nicki Nicole were among them. Eilleen Gu and Juan Del Porto joined in from the sporting world.

Quarter One

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon had a terrible weekend as he crashed out on the final practice session. Subsequently, he couldn’t make it to the qualifying.

As usual, Q1 eliminates the slowest five racers at the end of the first eighteen minutes. It was tussle down at the humid Miami as fans eagerly waited. Mercedes lead with Russell in the top foray and Hamilton improving, however with a few laps, Hamilton dropped down to bottom five and gave rise to serious tension in the Mercedes shed. However with few minutes left on the clock, he improved to fifth. Alonso, who also had dropped to the bottom had a near escape. As the eighteen minutes ended, five were eliminated

  • 17th Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo)
  • 18th Alex Albon (Williams)
  • 19th Nicholas Latifi (Williams)
  • 20th Esteban Ocon (Alpine, didn’t take part)

Quarter Two

The traffic at the end of the First Quarter was well, jammed and 15 racers slid into the second quarter. Q2 runs over fifteen minutes and eliminates the slowest five in the end.

The session started with Le Clerc and Verstappen on the front. Both were daunting and well directed in their path. Mercedes upcoming to their strong game was the highlight.

The Bulls have a tyre advantage and used it to the maximum as Perez and Verstappen started an attack in teh top five at the Q2. However, with two laps aborted and two attempted, George Russell of Mercedes notified that he was bouncing and the I’ll fate of porpoising hit Mercedes once again. Both McLarens fell into the Bottom five at one point and panic was on a high horse at the McLaren Shed. But Norris somehow escaped the no point zone. However, Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t make the cut. Charles Le Clerc steered with heavy force and topped the grid. As fifteen minutes dawned another five got them positioned in for the Sunday race

  • 12th George Russell (Mercedes)
  • 13th Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin)
  • 14th Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren)
  • 15th Mick Schumacher (Haas)

Quarter Three

Ten Drivers Racing for the first-ever pole of Miami Grand Prix. After some key names were eliminated, it was a grand showdown at the Hard Rock. Charles Le Clerc was leading at the front of the race after posting a flying lap

The key competition was between the Prancing Horses and the Bulls with all four of the drivers maintained good pace. Hamilton made some strides but did make much improvement. With six minutes left in the session, Verstappen snatched the pole from the championship leader. Trailing them were Carlos Sainz.

As Max turned too hard into the Turn 6, he lost his flying lap as Le Clerc took advantage. Max handed Le Clerc the pole back and Sainz steered past Max. Thus the Prancing Horses locked their first front row since 2018 Mexican Grand Prix.
