For the 20th edition of the Hamburg European Open, which will be held at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium from July 18–24, the biggest stars in women’s tennis have arrived in Germany.
The Hamburg European Open, which was first held in 1982 as a part of the WTA tour, has a long history. At the tournament’s inaugural edition, American Lisa Bonder-Kreiss won the championship. Since then, Steffi Graf, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, and Kim Clijsters have also received the title.
The first two editions of the tournament took place in Hittfeld, and then again from 1987 to 2002. After a 17-year break, the tournament returned to Hamburg in 2021.
Hamburg European Open Women’s draw
This year’s tournament will be led by top seed Anett Kontaveit and the reigning winner Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The championship’s home challenge will be led by last year’s finalist Andrea Petkovic and include Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova.
