Andy Murray locks his first win against the Top 5 since 2016 over Stefanos Tsitsipas

Sir Andy Murray will play versus the Australian, Nick Kyrgios in the semi-final.

The former World No one, Andy Murray scratches his first Top five win by defeating the 1st-seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas. He won over Tsitsipas in the quarter-final of the Stuttgart Open 2022.

The 35-year-old British storms over the wildcard entry of the Stuttgart Open in a straight-set win. The first set was neck to neck as both players comfortably held serves till 5-5. At 6-5, Andy faced his first break point ultimately a set point for Stefanos. But Murray held it tight and saved it quite impressively. Stefanos missed by millimetres to lose the tiebreak against Andy at 4-7.

Andy Murray showed great athleticism as he covered the whole court in defence of Tsitsipas’s criss-cross shots. He played some exquisite shots across the court to take a lead by 4-2. Stefanos could not play his best thus Andy won by 7-6,6-3.

Murray is been known to defeat top players from the start of his young career. He has the best record of wins against the well-known “Big 3”. Andy has won at least five matches against the legendary trio.

After going through two major hip surgeries in and after 2017, Andy required a good period of time to bounce back to his best form. For a couple of years (2020-2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic) he could not step onto the court for many matches. But, Andy begins his campaign to come back on a smooth career track this year.
