Three-time Stanley Cup winners Tampa Bay Lightning sealed their sixth consecutive Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have also confirmed their First Round matchup with second-place Toronto Maple Leafs.
Earlier today, the Lightning drowned the Islanders by five goals at Amalie Arena to clinch the third spot in the Atlantic Division. Lightning struck thrice in the second period and once each in 1st and 3rd period. B Brayden Point scored one goal and assisted twice to win yet another MPG. Nikita Kucherov and two more had two points in the game.

The victory has taken the Lightning into 96 points off 77 games (45-26-6). Maple Leafs, with whom Lightning has confirmed a First round matchup, defeated the Senators earlier to be the fourth team to hit 100 points. The Bruins clinched the Presidents’ two days back, thereby hoarding the first place. On the other hand, The Panthers’ loss ensured that the Maple Leafs and Lightning are settling in 2nd or 3rd.
The First round match-up reminds me of last year when Leafs met eventual runners-up Lightning in the first round. In one of the best first rounds in the NHL, Tampa Bay defeated Toronto in a seven-game thriller. The teams alternated victories for the first six games, setting up for an ultimate decider on Game 7.
The 13-time champs Lightning has not a single cup since the 1966-67 season. In the past 15 years, they have found them not qualifying on most of occasions. If not, It is a First Round Exit. Can the Maple Leafs come back? Or will the Lightning dominate the Playoffs once again?
