The Tempe voters have rejected all three propositions related to the new Yotes arena and entertainment district project. The three propositions named Prop 301, 302, and 303 entailed the city with a green light to re-zone the area and construct an entertainment district. The $2.1 billion development is supposed to be located near Rio Salado Parkway and Priest Drive. The deal included hotels. apartments, retail businesses, a music venue, and a hockey arena. The vote split remains 56-44 as the first ballot dropped earlier. The key reasons for a potential rejection lie with the relentless campaigning by Tempe 1st. They argued that the deal is opening up more taxes for Tempe citizens. They also termed that the deal is lucrative only for Alex Meruelo who the Tempe 1st never failed to call a non-native.
Tempe Mayor Corey Woods thought that it was the best sports deal to happen in Arizona history. Xavier Guttierez, the president and CEO of the Yotes, said he is disappointed and they will further introspect the possibilities in the coming weeks.
