AHL Releases Inaugural Top Prospects Team for the 2022-23 Season

The American Hockey League (AHL) released its first-ever Top Prospects Team for the 2022-23 season.

The list is a selection of top AHL players aged 22 or below. The selection criterion specified the players play at least 30 games but fewer than 30 regular-season contests. In the case of a goaltender, these criteria were 25 and 20 respectively.

The Goaltender of the Top Prospects team is Jesper Wallstedt of the Iowa Wild. The Swede posted a remarkable season with the Wild with a 2.68 GAA and .908 SV%. Minnesota Wild picked up the 20-year-old in 2022 as 202nd overall.

On the blue line, Simon Nemec of the Utica Comets and David Jiricek of the Cleveland Monsters got selected. Simon, drafted 2nd overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2022 scored 12 goals and 34 points. The Slovakian defenseman could add a lot of value to the Devils’ already set defense line in the future. Jiricek, who has already made his NHL debut with Columbus Blue Jackets has has a good run in the AHL. The defenseman has scored 6 goals accumulating 38 points in just 55 matches.

The forward glitters with Tyson Foerster of Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Jiri Kulich of the Rochester Americans, and Lukas Reichel of the Rockford IceHogs. Foerster drafted 23rd overall by the Flyers in 2020 has made waves in the league. He has also let the big guys in NHL know his presence by scoring 20 goals and 48 points. The Sabres’ 28th selection Jiri Kulich has made an impressive statement in the AHL. Kulich leads Rochester in terms of goals in the 2022-23 season with 24. Rochester, who finished 3rd as they went down in ECF, ran its postseason course thanks to 7 goals in 11 games by Kulich.

With Connor Bedard in sight, Lukas Reichel could be that perfect duo for the Blackhawks. In 111 AHL contests, The German has scored 108 points, thus being a dominant force for the IceHogs. He even made an impressive debut in the Blackhawks jersey, with 22 points in 23 games. Also Read: Vegas-based Strip Club Set to Offer the Golden Knights heavy incentives if they win the Stanley Cup
