Joel Embiid overtakes Allen Iverson to become the 76ers’ fastest player to reach 10,000 points

Only 13 players have amassed 10,000 points in NBA history, and the Cameroonian legend is the only one to do it.

Just five minutes into Wednesday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Joel Embiid created Philadelphia 76ers history. Embiid achieved 10,000 points in his career with a driving layup that gave him an and-1 opportunity in the first quarter. Embiid completed the record in 373 games, surpassing Allen Iverson as the Sixers player. Who needed the fewest games to score 10,000 points? Charles Barkley required 445 games to reach that milestone while Iverson needed 378.

It’s unquestionably a tremendous accomplishment for Joel Embiid. And it demonstrates just how dominant he has been for the Sixers since joining the team. Due to a foot ailment, he missed Philadelphia’s first two seasons. Seven years after his debut, it still thrilled supporters that the team trusted him.

In the 2022–23 season, Embiid was averaging 33.2 points per game before to the matchup with the Cavaliers. He has been an overwhelming force in the paint and is compellingly vying to receive his first MVP award. Joel Embiid: Breaking records and dominating the court

The basket that helped Joel Embiid reach that point total was a fantastic illustration of the unique player he is. Few big guys can handle the ball as well as Embiid can. As he drives right by Evan Mobley of Cleveland to the basket and the foul line. A 7-foot, 280-pound centre is performing a task that is typically performed by strong forwards or guards.

It’s obviously incredible that Embiid reached 10,000 points in fewer games than Iverson and Barkley. But what’s even more amazing is how he did it despite missing the first two. And a half seasons of his career due to injury. Imagine that he would have reached this milestone a long time ago if he had been healthy to begin his career. With his achievement, Embiid became the eighth centre in the NBA’s active roster to reach 10,000 points, and he did so in 100 fewer games than any other player on the list. Ahead of the current Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala, the Sixers’ big man is currently eighth all-time in scoring for Philadelphia. Embiid is now 406 points short of Cheeks after scoring 29 points on Wednesday.
