Jacque Vaughn has become the new head Coach of Brooklyn Nets. Additionally, on Wednesday, Brooklyn Nets made the announcement that Jacque Vaughn, who was serving as the team’s interim head coach, will take the reins for the remainder of the year.
Jacque Vaughn deal Runs Through 2024-24 season
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Jacque Vaughn’s elevation includes a deal that runs through the 2024–24 season. The Nets announced on November 1 that they had parted ways with Steve Nash, as a result, the position became available. The day of the game against the Chicago Bulls saw Vaughn appointed as the team’s interim head coach, but it didn’t take long for other names to surface as prospective replacements.

Steve Nash as Head Coach of the Nets
In his two seasons as head coach of the NBA team, Steve Nash had a 94-67 record and suffered playoff losses in the first and second rounds, respectively. The second season didn’t go at all as planned since James Harden was moved to the Philadelphia 76ers, Kevin Durant dealt with injury issues, and Kyrie Irving missed a lot of time due to lack of COVID-19 vaccination.
However, Ben Simmons didn’t play last year after being acquired in the Harden trade. Then, in August, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Durant had a meeting with Nets governor Joe Tsai and had given him a choice: transfer Durant or fire Nash and general manager Sean Marks. Even though the 34-year-old finally stayed, the tone for the start of the new campaign was fairly striking.

Jacque Vaughn preferred over Ime Udoka
Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics was reportedly a “strong front-runner” for the role after Nash was sacked, according to Charania. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the group was also anticipated to consider hiring Quin Snyder, the former head coach of the Utah Jazz.
Nevertheless, the Brooklyn Nets team hadn’t chosen its next head coach, general manager Sean Marks said at the time, according to reporters. In the end, the Nets elected to continue with Jacque Vaughn, who is now in charge of managing a group of players that have the ability to contend for a title but haven’t yet gelled and reached their potential.
