Damian Lillard scores 71 points in an incredible performance
On Sunday night, Damian Lillard had a great game and accomplished many new goals.
Lillard tallied a career-high 71 points in the Portland Trail Blazers 131-114 victory over the Houston Rockets, after scoring 41 points in the first half. While playing 39 minutes, Lillard made a franchise-best 13 3-pointers on 22 of 38 field goal attempts.
Damian Lillard made eight 3-pointers in the first two quarters, giving him 41 points before he entered the locker room at halftime. In the first nine minutes of the second quarter alone, he made 8 of 11 shots for 25 points. He joined only Bryant, who accomplished this feat in 2003, as the only other player to ever score at least 40 points while draining eight 3-pointers. According to ESPN, they also tied it with Kyrie Irving for the second-most points scored in a half in the previous 25 seasons, trailing only the 42 points scored by Bryant in 2003.
By the end of the third quarter, Damian Lillard had scored 50 points, but the Rockets had closed the gap to 14 points from as much as 23 early on. With a tremendous and-one dunk over Jabari Smith Jr. midway in the fourth quarter, he increased his lead to 59.
