Lakers stunning 111-108 victory over the Mavericks, records the largest NBA comeback of the season

The Lakers punished Dallas for letting up in the second half by forcing them to play catch-up.

On the strength of outstanding performances from LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers (29-32) completed an astonishing comeback in the second half against the Dallas Mavericks (32-30) at the American Airlines Center.

With a game-high 30 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and three blocks, 29-year-old Davis finished the game. Additionally, he made a few baskets down the stretch to secure the victory.

The Lakers completed the biggest comeback win of the 2022–23 NBA season despite trailing by 27 points in the second quarter. With both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic on the court, the Mavericks went 1-3 as a result of a late turnover by the deteriorating Dallas team. James, 38, contributed 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists in the fight against the Mavs’ powerful combination. Dallas Mavericks lose badly while the Lakers stage an incredible comeback.

This season, every Los Angeles Lakers-Dallas Mavericks game appears to end in sadness for the purple and gold. Dallas defeated Los Angeles by 30 points in their Christmas Day matchup, the Lakers’ worst quarter of the season. Dallas triumphed in a contentious, double-overtime thriller in the January rematch that featured dubious officiating on both sides. On Sunday, in the third matchup of the season between the two teams, Dallas surged out to a 48-21 lead in the first quarter, giving the Lakers what appeared to be a similar outcome. Then a few shots began to ring out. By the break, a 27-point lead had shrunk to 14. After then, the defense tightened its grip, limiting Dallas to just 20 points in the third quarter and reducing the margin of victory to three. What about the last period? The distinction was in the stars. 18 points were scored by LeBron James and Anthony Davis together, while Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic lost it. A Doncic turnover with 18 seconds left and the Mavericks down three effectively ended the rally. The Lakers defeated the mavericks 111-108.

The victory over the Mavericks was crucial before Tuesday’s away game against the Memphis Grizzlies, even if the Lakers still have a long way to go to secure a postseason spot.
