What went down?

Velozo is accused of shooting Lo in the head at Clube Sirio during a dispute over a bottle of alcohol. Witnesses claimed that after Velozo took the bottle from Lo’s table, Lo, who also happens to be a purple belt in jiu-jitsu, pinned the policeman down to maintain control of the situation. They were separated, and Velozo was permitted to stand up again. However, he took a few steps back before shooting Lo once in the forehead. A few hours later, Lo was pronounced dead.

According to UOL, Velozo’s encounter with the law was not his first. The police officer was convicted of assaulting another police officer in a nightclub in 2017. He was found guilty, but no jail time was imposed.

At the age of 33, Lo passed away having won a long list of illustrious jiu-jitsu championships, including eight gold medals at the IBJJF Worlds. Gordon Ryan, Andre Galvao, Gilbert Burns, and Felipe Pena were just a few of the opponents he defeated.
