After going through a hard patch with the supporters, Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid is once again the favourite son of Madrid’s Rojiblanco neighbourhood. It seems that he could travel to Barcelona in 2018 and produce a documentary outlining his decision before actually doing so in 2019.
Griezmann returned on loan to Barcelona last season after three equally difficult years there. He had endured a protracted period of jeers and whistles, but he is now back in their good graces and is regarded as their greatest player this year. What did Antoine Griezmann say on his return?
The French World Cup champion was eager to demonstrate that he understood their frustration when he spoke to Movistar last week.
“It did a lot of damage to the fans. They gave me everything and in the end I left because that’s what I wanted, what I needed. I as a fan would also have been very angry. It’s what I deserved.”
Griezmann continued by emphasising the significance of his supporters, and while his performances served as the foundation, it is obvious that their encouragement has been beneficial. Read More: Manchester United and Crystal Palace Fined by the FA for failing to control players
“I became very humble and I worked to try to change that. Those who know me know that I need this relationship with the fans, I need their love, your support to perform at the highest level.”
Griezmann is currently responsible for 47% of Atletico Madrid’s goals in La Liga this year. The €20 million they spent on reuniting him with the Metropolitano now appears exceptionally wise.
