Ousmane Dembele is a French professional footballer who plays as a winger for La Liga club FC Barcelona and the France national team. PSG bought him as the replacement for the departing club legend Neymar Jr, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million. Initially, the player had a great start as he made his debut against Espanyol. However, things soon took a turn as Dembele suffered an injury in his first league start against Getafe. Since 2017, Dembele has played only 20 full matches for Barcelona and has missed 108 games due to injuries. It was a massive issue for FC Barcelona which they were finding difficult to cope with.

After the arrival of club legend Xavi, Dembele got his confidence back and he showcased his class to the fans of Barcelona in the 2021/22 season as he ended the season as the league’s top playmaker with 13 assists. Barcelona had an incredible 2022/23 season with Ousmane Dembele, winning the league and Supercopa. He scored a good amount of goals and provided several assists before getting injured in the later stage of the league. Dembele Transfer Saga- PSG OR BARCELONA?

During the 2024/24 preseason, FC Barcelona is in the USA competing in some club-friendly matches against some of the top teams in Europe. Recently after their game against their ultimate rival Real Madrid rumors were circling that Paris Saint Germain might be trying to negotiate a deal with Dembele’s entourage for a transfer to the French club. PSG officials decided to pay the release clause of €50 million to capture the deal and the player from FC Barcelona but they had to do it before 1st August. As per Dembele’s recent contract, his €50 million release clause is only valid til 1st August 2024 after that the release clause would increase to €100 million.

On July 30, 2024, Dembele gave the green light to the transfer after PSG sent a formal letter to FC Barcelona to inform the club about the deal. PSG already had a verbal agreement with Dembele’s agent on a five-year deal until June 2028.

According to Fabrizio Romano(Renowned Football Journalist), PSG wasn’t able to trigger LaLiga €50 million exit clause for buying Ousmane Dembele before 1 August 2024 as a result of which both the clubs would find a “new way” to close the deal. PSG and FC Barcelona are gonna close the deal by a private clause. According to the private clause, Ousmane Dembele would be able to join PSG at a price tag of €50 million (worth of the private clause) if the deal gets done within the end of this week.

What is the next step for Ousmane Dembele’s future?

Dembele and his entourage have to find a way to complete this deal by the end of this week or else the player would have no choice but to stay at FC Barcelona for the current season until the end of his contract.
