In the recent statement released by the club, Manchester United confirmed the return of Marcus Rashford to training after missing out on international duty with England.
He withdrew from the Euro qualifiers after picking up a toe injury during United’s dramatic win over Fulham in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford. England started their qualifiers by winning both their games in his absence. During the period Rashford was seen holidaying with his girlfriend in New York, which created a buzz around England. In a press conference Gareth Southgate the England boss said that he has no issues regarding Rashford jetting off to New York, he also stated that players get very little time off so it’s up to them how they want to spend their time when not with the team.
Rashford is back in Carrington and has started his recovery although he did not join the main group of players while training. He is doubtful for their first game after the international break this weekend where they face top-four rivals Newcastle at St James’ Park.
After the controversial departure of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this season Marcus Rashford has been the showpiece for United. The English forward has been their best player on the pitch this season with 36 goal contributions (27 goals highest by any United player and 9 assists) for the Red Devils.
As the Red Devils continue to push their quadruple dream, Erik ten hag has got a lengthy list of injuries which is turning into a crisis now and he cannot afford to drop many points in the league. With Garnacho, Martial, Eriksen, Van de Beek, and Sabitzer (injured recently in the international break) all out due to injuries, United has nine games to play in April in three competitions ( FA Cup, Europa League, and Premier League) they will be hoping for Rashford’s soon return to the team. Rashford’s potential absence will create a tactical headache for ETH, who will have to reshuffle his team and will have to rely on Jadon Sancho on the left and involve youngsters ( Pellistri and Elanga) upfront.
ETH finds himself in a difficult situation as United’s injury problem comes at a challenging time of the season. It will be a test for him and his management skills while they end the season on a good note.
