Messi Bids Paris A Goodbye, A Journey To Forget

This was the destiny of the boy from Rosario, he came to Paris, gave his absolute best but was hated by the supporters, the team didn’t work out, his fate went south, and now, it is the time when he will be parting with them. It was Lionel Messi’s quest in Paris, they wanted him to be the Napoleon of the journey, the conqueror. But the chemistry was never established in the first place and now we will be talking about how the journey was. Lionel Messi will be leaving PSG at the end of the season.

Where will he go? The options are probably endless but there is nostalgia, there is love and there is greatness. We will get the answer soon enough for the Argentine world cup winner.

What a year he had! A World Cup, a Ligue 1, and one French Super Cup, any player will be jealous if they look at this level of winning. But on a personal level, he exceeded every expectation. He took part in 53 games, scored 38 times, and assisted 25 times. Not only the numbers but he also bagged some personal trophies and records this year.

Messi Joined the French side on a free transfer in the summer of 2021 and it wasn’t the greatest chapter of his career. Though in this season he redeemed himself with 20 goals and 21 assists, he didn’t win the Champions League which was eventually a core reason behind the signing.

“Thank you to the club, to the city of Paris, and its inhabitants for these two years. I wish them the best for the future,” Messi said.

Christophe Galtier earlier confirmed the departure and he also cherishes the journey. “I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes,” Galtier had told reporters.

“This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don’t think any of the comments or criticisms are justified. He’s always been there for the team. It’s been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season.”

“I would like to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris,” said Nasser Al Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, “Seeing a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in Rouge & Bleu and at the Parc des Princes, winning two consecutive French championships and inspiring our young players has been a pleasure. His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future.”

Now what went wrong? Practically speaking, A lot. But these two somewhat forgettable seasons are aggregated to his legacy, which can never be topped. What will be his next stop? Only time will tell but the journey ended before it became more bitter.

Merci Messi.
