How Does The Future Look For Gvardiol?

Josko Gvardiol impressed all of us in the World Cup. And now English teams are interested in him. So who will have the Croatian in the summer?

Josko Gvardiol is one name that established himself in the world cup. Now his future looks brighter than ever as some European giants will take their checkbooks out to get him on their team.

Gvardiol signed a contract extension until 2027 back in December, and clubs have to act quickly. There is a release class that will be active from 2024 and the price tag will read a massive €97 million.

Chelsea has been interested in him for years now as the transfer almost took place last summer. Todd Boehly considered the €70 million price tag too high during that window.

Now, other English clubs join the race to sign Gvardiol. Liverpool and Manchester City are among those interested.

The 21-year-old defender already managed to establish a name during the world cup campaign and managed to grab the attention of managers like Pep Guardiola. He scored the equalizing goal against Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16.

Gvardiol talked about interest from Chelsea last summer, insisting he would “definitely” consider a move from Chelsea. “I was really confused because one month before the window starts I was upstairs with the sporting director and he says, “Yeah Josko, we are not going to sell you, we need you, we believe in you,’ and I was like ok I am fine with this, I can stay here, I like it here, all I need is to work on myself, to play, to win something else. It was like this until the last two days.

“My agent called me and said that Chelsea is extremely interested and, of course, you definitely think about a serious offer from a huge club like Chelsea. Leipzig said they didn’t want to sell me. In the end I really struggled with that decision but we didn’t make an agreement. It is what it is.

“I am here and I am fine with this because my idea had been to stay here. One season was not enough. This is my second season, even one more season would be great but we will see.”

Gvardiol is busy improving his skills as a defender and Chelsea keeps on being interested in him. This summer, we might see the Croatian move to England and show his impact in the league. Now the time will tell if it will be in a blue shirt or a red one or he will be kissing the badge of some other English club.
