Chelsea signs Malo Gusto to a contract extension until 2030 and returns the defender to Lyon

Chelsea announced on Sunday that they had finalised the acquisition of right-back Malo Gusto from Lyon. Continuing their winter spending spree. The deal, according to Lyon, has a 5 million euro (£4.4 million) add-on. The defender will now continue his excellent development while on loan at Lyon before joining the Blues in the summer in time for the upcoming season, according to a statement from Chelsea.

“The defender will now continue his remarkable improvement on loan [at Lyon] before joining the Blues in the summer ahead of the new season,” reads the statement.

Gusto progressed through Lyon’s divisions before making his professional debut in January 2021.

While Gusto would be staying with them for the remainder of the 2022–23 season. Lyon said the club “regrets not having been able to keep one of its major dreams trained at the academy.” Nevertheless, they are “glad” about the development.

Malo Gusto for Chelsea

Gusto is Chelsea’s eighth acquisition of the frantic January transfer window.
