Real Sociedad hands Barcelona their first home defeat of the season after 2-1 victory on Saturday at Camp Nou. Barcelona were crowned as La Liga champions for the first time since 2018-19 following their derby win away to Espanyol.
After confirming their status as La Liga champions, there was an end of season feel at Camp Nou as fans awaited for the trophy celebrations after the game. Barcelona were expected to come up with a victory to mark their League win, but Real Sociedad stood firm to spoil the celebrations. Sociedad took an early lead through Mikel Merino’s close range finish in the fifth minute, then Alexander Sorloth doubled the lead for the away team in 72nd minute before Robert Lewandowski pulled back a compensation goal in the injury time, he is now five clear of Karim Benzema in the golden boot race.
This was Real Sociedad’s first win since 1991 at the Camp Nou. The Basque country outfit are aiming to return to the UEFA Champions League next season, they are currently placed at 4th five points above Villareal in 5th with 60 points.
