FIFA World Cup 2022: Uruguay Squad, Captain, Coach, Star Players, Possible Line-Up

Uruguay squad for FIFA 2022 and other information.

Uruguay placed third in the CONMEBOL qualifying matches, behind Argentina and Brazil, and earned a spot in the next 2022 World Cup.

They have a long history in the competition, having hosted the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and winning it after defeating Argentina in the championship game.

In 1950, they won their second Jules Rimet trophy after shocking the world by defeating Brazil at the crowded Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The eventual champions, France, defeated them, in the quarterfinals of their previous appearance in 2018. Diego Alonso and his team hope to improve on that showing this time around.

Uruguay’s World Cup 2022 qualification experience will have taught them that change is good. Oscar Tabarez’s remarkable cycle ended in November with four devastating losses after 15 years and more than 200 games.

Alonso has selected 26 players to represent Uruguay in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, including many well-known names.

They were in Group H with South Korea, Ghana, and Portugal.

Uruguay Star Players

 1. Edinson Cavani

Regular La Liga matches provided him the opportunity to prove that he still possesses the necessary skills following the last season at Manchester United, where he played little first-team football. Although he may not be as strong as he once was, Cavani is still a top forward who never betrays his nation.

He was used on the flank earlier in his career, including when he shared the goal-scoring duties with Luis Suarez for Uruguay, but in recent years he has transitioned into an out-and-out center forward. Nevertheless, despite having a more prominent role, he occasionally leaves the area to rejoin his teammates.

Cavani, a legend of the Celeste with 54 goals in 128 games, will play in his fourth World Cup after appearing in South Africa in 2010, Brazil in 2014, and Russia in 2018 when he scored twice against Portugal in the round of 16 but was absent from France’s quarterfinal loss.

 2. Federico Valverde

Few players from Uruguay are in better shape than Valverde, a tremendously versatile midfielder who, at the young age of 24, is already making waves with Real Madrid and has established himself as an indispensable member of the Spanish powerhouses as well as his nation.

Valverde is a three-in-one player who serves as Real Madrid’s fifth defender, fourth midfielder, and third striker. He is the type of player every coach aspires to have. Along with his trademark intensity and ability to cover every blade of grass, he also possesses vision, a keen eye for goal, and a talent for reading the game.

Although he is not frequently mentioned when talking about the finest players in the game right now, he deserves to be there and will be crucial to his nation’s chances in Qatar.
