They set the FIFA World Cup as the ultimate hurdle to decide the GOAT debate because both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have two international trophies while having an abundance of goal-scoring records and club championships. And their last dance was to be in Qatar in 2022. But as Portugal unexpectedly lost in the quarterfinals, Messi gave Argentina their first trophy in 36 years, ending their long wait. So, is the GOAT controversy over? While the supporters of the two superstars are still debating it on social media, FIFA has issued a direct judgment.
