How to build the best Pokémon team using a Pokémon team builder
Picking your roster
Let’s concentrate on one team builder in particular for ease of use: Pokémon Team Planner by richi3f. I’m using the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Pokédex and database in this example, which is generation sixth. After you’ve chosen your game, you’ll be taken to a screen with six-party slots and a list of all the Pokémon in the game.
At the top, you can filter the available Pokémon by type, legendary status, color, evolution potential, and other criteria. If you know which Pokémon you want to use, you can add them to your team by clicking on them, which will place them in one of the six egg slots at the top of the page. When you click a Pokémon, its type is displayed for easy analysis. Remember to consider dual typing, stat growth potential, natures, abilities, move sets and learnsets, held items, and combo potential when assembling a team, especially if you intend to use these Pokémon competitively.
After you’ve chosen your team or just six Pokémon for comparison, click “Show Team Analysis” to get a detailed breakdown of your team’s potential. The resulting chart will show all eighteen types as well as how many of your Pokémon have each of their weaknesses, immunities, resistances, and coverage. Team builders are a great way to quickly assess your ability to deal with a wide range of personalities.

Another tool to build Pokémon Team
However, Richi3f’s tool isn’t the only one available. Check out Marriland’s Pokémon Team Builder tool for a more advanced tool that includes enemy team compositions and move selections. You can also choose any generation between one and eight using this tool. My Pokémon Team allows you to choose moves, abilities, and items for your Pokémon, but it does not allow you to base your team on a specific generation. It also excludes Pokémon Legends Arceus, even though it has a much smaller competitive scene than some of the main-series Pokémon games.
Whatever level of competitiveness you desire, there is almost certainly a Pokémon team-building tool for you. The days of poring over strategy guides and consulting untrustworthy websites are over: thanks to the internet’s power, you can finally put together the perfect team.
