Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 To Be Held In Pune From May 23

The tournament will be conducted during the IPL 2022 knockout matches and will be televised live on Start Sports network and Disney+Hotstar.

Women’s T20 Challenge is set to return this year after a layoff in 2021. The matches will be played in Pune towards the end of May. Three teams namely Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity will yet again compete in the mini-tournament. Following the traditional format of the competition, each team will play each other once before the ultimate final. The league matches will be played on May 23rd, 25th and 26th while the final will be played on May 28th. All matches except that on May 24 will start at 7:30 PM IST. The match scheduled for May 24 will be a day affair and will start at 3:30 PM IST.

Smriti Mandhana led Trailblazers to their second Women's T20 Challenge title in 2020.

Defending champions, Trailblazers, will fancy their chances for another title in their kitty as they have won it twice in three editions. The other team to have won the title is Supernovas. Velocity have never won the championship.

According to the sources, the BCCI is planning to hold a full-fledged Women’s IPL from next year, something which the whole cricketing fraternity has been demanding for an eternity. WIPL, initially, will have six teams and the owners of the current teams in IPL will have an option to own a team in WIPL as well. Contenders for a WIPL team in the open market will only be reached out if less than 6 owners in IPL show no interest in the cause. The idea is still in its early stages and thus it won’t be any surprise if the WIPL is pushed to 2024 or scratched off.
