Chennai Super Kings have been struggling in the powerplay from the start of the season, but with now MS Dhoni back at the helm for them, their fortunes at the top have changed. Ruturaj Gaikwad who was struggling with his form this season scored a valiant 99 and was misfortunate to miss out on his second IPL hundred. On the other hand, his newlywed opening partner who was making a comeback to the team, devon Conway also scored 85 runs, and together they scored 182 runs opening partnership stand for Chennai Super Kings. This is also the highest opening partnership for the Chennai Super Kings and 4TH highest opening partnership in IPL history.
At the toss, Kane Williamson opted to bowl first and CSK went into the batting with a new opening combination, which was a great risk considering Robin Uthappa was doing good at the top. Ruturaj was struggling for runs and Devon Conway was making a comeback but, the gamble paid off for them as CSK put on a mammoth total of 202/2 at the end of their innings. The partnership between Ruturaj and Conway started slowly but, then it picked pace as the innings progressed. Ruturaj accelerated and Conway anchored the innings from the other end. Sunrisers Hyderabad was handicapped earlier when Washington Sundar was injured during fielding and left the field. Kane Williamson then used Aiden Markram and Shashank Singh to complete the 5th bowler’s overs, it worked in the favor of Chennai and they piled on the misery of SRH.
