Rashid Khan Becomes the New T20i Captain of Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi resigns

He will be leading the Afghanistan cricket squad for the second time in its entirety.

After Mohammad Nabi resigned following Afghanistan’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. They have selected Rashid Khan, captain of the Afghanistan T20I team.

Rashid Khan as the New T20i Captain

Rashid Khan will serve as the team’s captain for T20 International matches, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Thursday, December 29. He will be leading the Afghanistan cricket squad for the second time in its entirety.

They suggested Rashid to take up the position by Afghanistan Cricket Board chairperson Mirwais Ashraf because the leg-spinner had previously led Afghanistan in seven T20 Internationals in 2019. Rashid also commanded Afghanistan in two tests and seven one-day internationals in 2018–19.

Afghanistan won four of the seven games played during Rashid’s last captaincy run. Including two triumphs over the West Indies in Lucknow. When Afghanistan visits the UAE to play three T20 Internationals against the hosts in February 2024. Rashid’s most recent captaincy tenure will start.

The leg-spinner statement on being captain

Rashid said in a statement after being named captain:

“Captaincy is a great responsibility. I have prior experience as the leader of my country, and there is a terrific group of individuals with whom I get along well and feel at ease“.

“We will attempt to stick together, work hard to get things back on track, and bring pride and joy to our nation and country.”

Afghanistan Cricket Board Statement

“In Afghanistan, cricket, Rashid Khan is well known. Because of his vast experience playing the format all over the world. He will be able to advance the team in the format “chairperson of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Mirwais Ashraf released a statement.

“We are glad to have Rashid Khan back as our captain for the T20I format because he has experience guiding Afghan Atalan in all three formats. I have no doubt that he will triumph and further the nation’s glory.” The T20 king Rashid stated that leading the country’s team is a tremendous honour.
