Mohammed Shami becomes the 18th bowler to reach 100 wickets in Indian Premier League

Amid the inaugural match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, Mohammed Shami became the seventeenth bowler to reach 100 wickets in Indian Premier League.

Mohammed Shami smacked down Devon Conway in his second over to reach the personal milestone. The left-handed batsmen missed the ball, crashing down the middle and the off-stump. He finished off the over without giving away a single run.

Although Kolkata Knight Riders signed Mohammed Shami in 2011, He didn’t make his first appearance until 2013. He played three games in 2013 and picked up his first wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shami eliminated Thisara Perera in the same fashion as Devon Conway, bowled, for his first-ever IPL wicket

He played for Delhi Daredevils from 2013 till 2018, grabbing just 21 wickets in 6 seasons. In 2019, He was signed by Kings XI Punjab. Mohammed Shami regained his form and lead the Purple Cap for KXIP. Shami repeated the feat in straight three seasons, thereby becoming KXIP’s fourth bowler to take 50 wickets for the franchise.

Shami was instrumental in Gujarat’s title run in 2022. He played 16 games from which the seamer plucked 20 scalps. He also maintained a top-notch economy of 8.00 per over.

Shami is also the fourteenth Indian to reach the achievement. Moreover, he is the first bowler to reach 100 wickets without having a four-for or above. His best figure is 3/15, he picked up for KXIP against Delhi Capitals in 2020.
