The England spin-bowler Jack Leach has been withdrawn from the 1st Test match against New Zealand. He suffered a concussion while fielding for the team. This happened during the 6th over of the NZ innings. Leach was following the ball which went towards the boundary. The bowler fell head-first on the field whilst still saving the ball from touching the boundary. Although, he promptly got the medical attention and the physios came to the rescue. After which, he was ruled out from the 1st Test against the opponent team.
Matt Parkinson, who is presently in Manchester, is already imminent to Lord’s to replace Jack Leach. He is a cricket prodigy but is still uncapped in Tests. Parkinson has taken a total of 126 wickets in the 37 first-class matches that he had played. Not to mention, the bowling attack of the England squad throughout subjugated the NZ batsmen on the initial day of the Test series. But Jack Leach was not the only one to fall prone to the injury/health problems. Matthew Potts, who is playing his debut match in the Test series against New Zealand, also walked out of the playing ground, owing to some physical injury. It still is not sure that he’ll play or not in the second innings.
Matthew Potts, being one of the youngest cricketers in the present Test squad of England, scalped 4 crucial wickets. Apart from Potts, James Anderson also took 4 wickets and Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes got the possession of a single wicket each. The pacers of England restricted the whole team of New Zealand to a low total of 132 runs on the first day of the Test match at Lord’s.
